January 2: Kenny returns to Japan for his second stay. He thought he lost his Nintendo gameboy while travelling, but someone found it and gave it back to him.

January 4: DDT New Year. The Golden Lovers start showing off some of their perfectly synchronous moves that they become known for.

January 5: DDT referee Matsui, Kenny, Kota and Michael hang out. They ate, Kenny sang karaoke, and they all played Wii bowling and tennis.

January 8: According to Nakazawa’s post “recent Kenny information,” he, Kenny and Kota worked out at Midbreath gym, then did karaoke and Wii. “Kenny can’t drink” he says. Not sure if this means he can’t hold his liquor, or he chooses not to. From Michael’s post, it sounds like Kenny was struggling at times to use the trains around Japan. One time he took a wrong train and went well past the station he was supposed to get off at, then tried running back along the tracks for an hour, but ultimately gave up and took a taxi. Sounds miserable.

Ibushi would win 4th place in Net Pro Wrestling Awards best wrestler of 2008. The awards are decided by wrestling bloggers casting votes, so its sort of a people’s choice situation. Kenny received 21st place, and considering it was out of 34 wrestlers, and he was brand new to the country, that’s not bad either! Kenny also won 13th place for Best New Face. But the best news was the Golden Lovers winning Best Match of the Year for when they went against each other in their first meeting back in August 2008!

January 12: Kenny participated in a one match show, wrestling in an open vacant lot against Dragon Soldier LAW (DSL). According to Nakazawa, “a lot of dead grass and spiky plant seeds got stuck in Kenny’s back due to the fight in the vacant lot.” There was about 70 spectators for it.

Here are photos [source] of the area. Appears pretty residential. The site is located “right next to Nishidai Station on the Toei Mita Line”:

Kenny & Michael arrive at the site where the outdoor match would take place.

Shortly after the match begins, Kenny uses a flower pot and DSL’s own shirt against him:

The match then moves indoors:

but gets a stunner from DSL instead, and winds up somehow on the floor with Michael like this…

…because….THEM. Anyway, Kenny does manage to snap out of his activities with Michael enough to get DSL into a pin, winning the match!

Yup, he’s all happy, but it ain’t over yet, because DSL calls for an immediate rematch. Michael and Kenny try to run away from him, ducking into a convenience store that sells bread and bentos. Kenny attempts to hide among the shelves while Michael trys to look natural, browsing the merch, all while the crowd is still outside watching the whole thing through the windows.

But DSL doesn’t let them get away with these evasive tactics and attacks

They head back outside, and Kenny finds a nice way to weaponize some French bread he got out of the store:

He then gets a hold of a canned beer and uses that on DSL, calling out “Stone Cold!” as he does so.

The wrestlers make their way over to a vacant lot near some condominiums, using a few impromptu items on each other as they go:

Kenny wins! He uses Michael as translator to talk to the crowd a bit after the victory. He asks everyone to continue supporting indie wrestling, and states he had wanted a match against DSL since he first saw him. DSL states the match was fun and made possible because of Kenny.

January 13th Kenny, Kota, and Michael do a little wrestling practice at the DDT dojo, and Kenny tells him “I want to develop a tag team with Ibushi and a special move!”

After that, Kenny taught Ibushi-san the technique of Jiu-jitsu, and Ibushi-san taught Kenny how to hit and they exchanged skills with each other for hard hits. I also did separate spurs for ground fighting and standing skills. Kenny’s teaching method was polite and easy to understand. I also practiced judo, so I know a little about ground fighting, but Kenny is really good at it. It seems that he has won a Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the past.

January 15: Ibushi goes to the DDT office and signs the renewal for his DDT contract.

January 17: At 4pm, referee Matsui meets Ibushi and Omega at a bowling alley. Ibushi loses to Matsui, and Kenny yells “FUCK!” a lot during the game, so they’re not as excellent at bowling as they are at wrestling it seems.

January 19: Several employees of DDT travel to Meiji University where a professor had them wrestle a tag match demonstration in front of 700 university students as part of his class. Kota was part of the demonstration it seems.

The very next day, Ibushi travels to Kawasaki to participate in a Royal Rumble match put on by Fu-Ten Promotion.

January 24: The Golden Lovers challenge HARASHIMA and Owashi for the KO-D Tag Titles, revealing their unique connection and complementary skills throughout the match. Whimsical Gudaguda “Pro-wrestling fan” life writes a blog post from this day titled “Amazing Perfect Brothers” and marvels at their similarities: “When I saw it, I thought that Ibushi and Omega were really similar. Step timing, rope usage, head spring posture and speed. Although they were born and raised differently, they are like twins. It seems that their hobbies and tastes are similar.

Regarding their Golden Shower finisher: “the timing of flight, height, moment of rotation, and timing of fall are perfect as if they were reflected in a mirror…I can only say that I saw something really incredible.”

Here are photos from Extreme Party who were at the event:

THEY WIN!!

New KO-D Tag Team Champs!! After hugging, each of them state they are glad to have the titles as a tag team with each other. Then Ibushi states his intention to go against Takagi next, for his Openweight title.

The Golden Lovers finish by doing a Hadouken together, Kenny all bloody faced.

January 25: Hard Hit Dynamism – Here the boys are at the beginning of the show’s entrance ceremony:

Kenny has a match where he defeats Masanori Ishikura, while Kota has his own singles match, defeating Isami Kodaka.

A couple of very adorable photos of the Lovers, either before or after the show:

January 28: Ibushi was in a four way tag match for BJW.  He and Madoka defeat Makoto Oishi & Shiori AsahiMEN’s Teioh & Shinobu, and Hercules Senga & Tsutomu Oosugi. [photo credit]. During the match, Ibushi uses Kenny’s Hadouken on his opponents.

Which means he was at a bar making drinks.

He and Michael play some games with the DDT fans in attendance, then they try to auction off dates with Kenny and Ibushi. Not sure who won – sounds like some high dollar amounts were involved.
